Portrait of the zone of Mont-Tremblant

A burgeoning economy

  •  The full zone of Mont-Tremblant is made up of three municipalities: Lac-Supérieur, Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré and the Ville de Mont-Tremblant (Town of Mont-Tremblant).
  •  Geographically, the territory is characterized by the presence of the massif of Mont Tremblant and the valley of the Rivière Rouge (Rouge River) - two natural resources that are considered the crown jewels of the Laurentians.
  •  There are many international-calibre recreational-tourism facilities, which are developing at a pace unique in Eastern America: Mont-Tremblant Resort and Mont Blanc ski center, nine golf courses, Mont-Tremblant provincial park and the linear park called the P'tit Train du Nord that traverses the zone from one end to the other.
  •  In earlier days, the zone developed around the vacation areas bordering the lakes (Tremblant, Supérieur, Ouimet, Mercier, etc.). The tradition continues and now vacationers and part-time residents double the full-time population.
  •  With an economy focused on development and the highlighting of natural resources (the tourist industry, forest products, vacation properties), the Mont-Tremblant zone is seeing spectacular economic growth with record levels of job creation, investment and building for the past 10 years.

Population

Demographic growth 10 times greater than that of Québec

  • In 2001, the total population of the zone of Mont-Tremblant was 12,581 permanent residents.
  • The territory has seen a 14.8% population growth between 1996 and 2001, compared to a 1.4% growth for Quebec as a whole.

Socio-demographic profile

A population on the move

  • As is the case in many other parts of Québec, the population of the MRC des Laurentides (the regional county municipality of the Laurentians) is slightly older, less educated and less active than the population in the major urban centres. On the other hand, the population in the Mont-Tremblant zone has a higher household income and is younger than that of the MRC. There is constant turnover, however, in the profile.
  • The economic expansion that has been observed over the past ten years thus favours the arrival of many young people who have come to the area to work.
