Major construction downtown

Le 4 May 2018

Starting on May 14, major construction will be underway in the “centre-ville” area to install a sanitary sewage system on the following streets: rue Labelle (between rue de Saint-Jovite and rue du Cap), rue Bisson, rue Saint-Georges and rue du Cap.

This construction involves, primarily, the addition of a sanitary sewer main, conversion of the existing single sewage system into a rainwater sewage system, complete replacement of the paving on these streets and replacement of the sidewalks on rue Labelle (between rue de Saint-Jovite and rue du Cap).

Here is an overview of the course of events and logistics of the proposed construction.

In the night of May 13 to 14, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., there will be a complete closure of the section of rue de Saint-Jovite between rue Bisson and rue Labelle. This closure is necessary to allow the required connections of the new sanitary sewage system to be made.

Rue Labelle (Route 327)

The work will begin on this street on May 14, from rue de Saint-Jovite to rue de l’École. This section of rue Labelle will be closed during the week while the construction is underway. The staff of the primary school campus will be asked to park their vehicles on rue Saint-Georges or rue Bisson. The construction on rue Labelle should last five weeks at the most, to be completed June 15 at the latest.

Two lanes will be open to traffic on the weekends, from Friday at 7 p.m. to Monday at 6:45 a.m., with the exception of the May 26 and 27 weekend, during which rue Labelle will remain closed to traffic. To facilitate access to northbound rue Labelle, a left turn onto rue Charbonneau, from rue de Saint-Jovite, will be permitted during the construction period. Measures have been taken to ensure that the pickup and drop-off area for “Campus primaire” children is safe, notably through the presence of police cadets, police officers and crossing guards. Please be particularly careful in this section of town during this period.

Several issues have prompted the Ville de Mont-Tremblant to begin this construction on rue Labelle (Route 327) in the springtime, including tourism, which is one of Mont-Tremblant’s major economic engines. During the summer, the influx of tourists causes a considerable increase in road traffic – about 300 per cent – on this major regional thoroughfare. It is also essential that the work be completed before June 24, 2018 – the date that marks the beginning of Mont-Tremblant’s headline events.

Rue Bisson, rue Saint-Georges and rue du Cap

Once the work on rue Labelle has been completed, by about June 15 at the latest, the streets mentioned in the heading will be closed to traffic, with the exception of local traffic accessing bordering properties. Trucks picking up trash will also have access to these streets. So that properties and businesses can be easily accessed, rue du Cap will not be a one-way street for the duration of the construction period; this will permit access from rue Labelle. The work on rue Bisson, rue Saint-Georges and rue du Cap should take six weeks.

Signage will be in place during the construction period. The signs will indicate, in particular, the detours and the new traffic directions temporarily in force.

Changes in the itinerary of Mont-Tremblant public transit (TCMT)

From May 13 to June 15, temporary modifications will be made to the TCMT bus route. These could cause unintentional delays in the schedules. Signs have been posted in the bus shelters and in TCMT buses to advise users. The changes have also been posted on the Ville de Mont-Tremblant website.

Invitation: Public information evening

Everyone is invited to a public information evening, in French, to be held on Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m., in the council room of city hall located at 1145 rue de Saint-Jovite. The director of the Public Works Department, Robert Davis, will provide information about the installation of the sanitary sewage system in the downtown area as well as the repaving of chemin du Village and the levelling and replacement of the Ruisseau Clair culverts.

The Ville de Mont-Tremblant would like to thank, in advance, the citizens, business persons and bus drivers, as well as the parents of students and the staff of the primary school campus for their understanding and cooperation during the construction period.
