City of Mont-Tremblant launches process to acquire the Beach and Tennis

Le 10 August 2021

Last night, the members of the municipal council of the Ville de Mont-Tremblant unanimously initiated procedures to acquire the Lac Tremblant beach site known as the Beach & Tennis (B&T). By resolution, the Council mandated a law firm, among other professionals, to proceed with the acquisition, by mutual agreement or by expropriation, of the B&T.

This will allow the entire property, spread out on both sides of the chemin du Village, to become public. The goal of this acquisition of the B&T is to maintain high quality recreational and leisure public facilities through the addition of a public beach, clay tennis courts and service buildings to existing municipal infrastructure.

“We have heard you loud and clear and it is also our opinion that the B&T beach must become public to allow our people and families to go swimming in the largest lake on our territory and have access to high quality tennis courts. The acquisition of the Beach & Tennis will also mean an open viewpoint on Lac Tremblant, which we all consider to be magnificent. I can tell you that I am very proud of the decision made by the Council,” stated Mayor Luc Brisebois.

This decision is in line with the City’s strategic plan to attract and retain youth, families and seniors, to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, and enhance the natural environment

As a reminder, the development of the Beach & Tennis site would have required a zoning amendment, a request that had been denied by the current City Council in 2018 in accordance with the objectives of Mont-Tremblant’s city plan. Following that, last May, the Council had filed a notice of reserve on the entire property to evaluate the opportunity of an acquisition

Due to the judicial process surrounding this project, the City and the municipal council will limit their comments to this press release.
